Pregnancy Blood Test Results

pregnancy blood test results – Jack or

Already we have lost it. I don’t know how to grieve a loss that while we’ve dreamt of it for so long – we have lost it so quickly

Feeling baby’s movement a lot more often now. Not very strongly though.

My ultrasound appointment (when I’ll get to know the baby’s gender) is on May 28th, and my next appointment with the obstetrician, Dr. Kim, will be about 2 weeks after that. At the appointment I will get to know the results of my blood test (testing for a high risk pregnancy).

Determine the Pregnancy By a Blood Test

A pregnancy blood test is based on identifying the level of “pregnancy hormone” in blood. This special pregnancy hormone is human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced by the chorion, a membrane that covers the embryo. The presence of chorionic villi in the blood means a pregnancy. That makes an early pregnancy blood test possible: you can get the positive result in one week after the conceiving. Usually, the hCG blood level of a woman who is not pregnant is about 0-15 mIU/ml.

The hCG test is also performed to find any pathology in the pregnancy (weeks 14-18). You can take an accurate hCG test at any time convenient for you (express result available) in the Traditional Midwifery and Family Care Centre.

How the HCG Test is Performed

Traditionally, a pregnancy blood test is performed on the 8th day after conceiving, but not earlier than 3-5 days of period delay. The blood is drawn from the arm vein on an empty stomach in the morning. If you can’t do the blood test in the morning, just remember that you have to fast for 4-6 hours before the test. Please inform the doctor or the nurse if you have been taking any drugs or hormonal medications. You can take another test in a couple of days to receive even more accurate results.

Should You Get a Pregnancy Blood Test?

Wondering whether to trust an at-home pregnancy test or head to the doctor for a blood draw? Here’s what you need to know if you’re trying to confirm that you’re pregnant.

When it comes to choosing between a urine test — the kind of at-home pregnancy test you can easily find at your local drugstore — and a pregnancy blood test, the biggest difference is sensitivity. Although a home pregnancy test can usually pick up a concentration of about 50 units of hCG (the pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin), a pregnancy blood test can detect as little as 5 units of hCG, explains Daniel Roshan, M.D., ob-gyn at Rosh Maternal-Fetal Medicine in New York City.

That sensitivity can make a big difference if you want or need to know whether or not you’re pregnant very early, Dr. Roshan says. “If you do a pregnancy test before you miss your period, the result may be negative with a urine test but positive with a blood test.”

How Accurate are Pregnancy Tests?

Early pregnancy tests aren’t usually necessary, but they can make a difference for women at higher risk for miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy, also known as tubal pregnancy, occurs when the fertilized egg remains in the fallopian tubes, instead of in the uterus, where it should be. “A patient would go to the doctor right away if they had a previous miscarriage so the doctor can check their blood and [she] can have a sonogram to look inside and see that everything is okay and it’s a healthy pregnancy,” says Dr. Roshan.

For most women, a pregnancy blood test isn’t necessary. If you’ve taken a home pregnancy test and gotten a positive result, your ob-gyn will likely see you around eight weeks after your last menstrual period and confirm your pregnancy with a transvaginal ultrasound. Sometimes, however, a doctor can’t detect the pregnancy on an ultrasound right away, and in that case she may order a blood pregnancy test, says Cristina Perez, M.D., an ob-gyn at the Women’s Specialists of Houston at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women.

The blood test will consist of at least two blood draws, about 48 hours apart. Early in pregnancy, your hCG levels should double approximately every 48 hours. By seeing the change in hCG levels, the doctor can evaluate for a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy, or confirm that your pregnancy is progressing healthily.

Our Week. 33-52weeksfordogs

Not a good week for either boy.

Louie is progressing, but the effects of the prednisone are taking a nasty toll. I created a sore under his eye just by doing routine eye boogie maintenance. The vet made it worse picking at it. grrrr. His already delicate skin is even more so on this steroid. His last blood test came back normal (PCV 40)! Yeah! We are going to beat IMHA.

Part of the look you are seeing on Jule’s face is from one of the many thunder boomers coming across the island. He is doing pretty well actually. His fear doesn’t seem to be increasing. We did lose power yesterday. I have to admit my fears were increasing. I didn’t have a clue what I’d do with a sick dog, Jules and myself if the power stayed out for long. It was/is stinkn’ hot!! Will have to look into getting a generator.

I ordered the Pet Step ramp for the boys, but Costco kicked back the order because our credit card info didn’t match our current address. Good business, but bad for us. Back to the hunt. Louie has to be lifted in and out of the Jeep. Another of the effects from the Pred is muscle loss. He is at risk for a cruciate tear. Oh and Cushings Disease too. Sigh.

There was more too this week but I am totally bumming myself out with all this. Really all and all. We are very lucky and doing well. Honest.
